What happens to the pocket money when I arrive
Pocket money must be handed in to the Course Director at the beginning of the course.Pocket Money is handed out at designated times, usually the evening prior to a half day or full day excursion.Pocket money requests should be given to Course Director and pocket money will be issued at above stated times.
How much pocket money do I need?
We recommend that your child brings about £75 a week pocket money either in cash or travellers cheques. You can also send money in advance - either a sterling cheque payable to ‘Bucksmore Summer Programmes(UK only) or by bank transfer as follows: Bucksmore Summer Programmes, Bank of Scotland, Account 06160416, Sort Code: 12-11-03, Swift Code: BOFSGB21238, IBAN: GB51 BOFS 1211 0306 1604 16 or by credit card (a 3% charge will be added if you use a credit card.Please note that bank transfers can take up to 2 weeks and you will be liable for all bank transfer charges. Please write your child’s name on the transfer documents and send us a copy of the banking papers. We are unable to pass on money before we receive it. Because of the time taken to transfer money, we recommend that adequate funds are sent before the course starts.
What happens to valuables that students may bring with them?
Students are encouraged not to bring expensive items with them such as jewelry or very expensive electronic equipment. Students should keep all their valuables safely locked away, or hand them in to their Course Director for safe keepin.
Can I change course or change centres during my stay at Bucksmore? Show
Students can change from one course to another course during their stay provided they stay at least 2 weeks on one of the courses. For example, a student can study for 2 weeks on the Bucksmore Summer course at Plumpton College and then study for a further 2 weeks (or one week) on the Bucky Adventure course at Plumpton College. Students attending longer than 2 weeks can change centres to study in a different centre. For example, students can study for two weeks on a Bucksmore Summer programme at our King Edwards centre and then change and study for 2 weeks (or 1 week) on the Bucksmore Summer programme at our St Hilda’s College, Oxford University Centre.
I need to have a visa to study in the UK. What do I do?
You will need a letter of invitation from us and a letter confirming your enrolment.When you have completed the Bucksmore application and sent it to us with your deposit, we will send you by return your enrolment pack. In the enrolment pack, we will have provided both your letter of confirmation of enrolment and your invitation letter for your visa addressed to your visa office. If you have any further questions about getting a visa, at any stage please don’t hesitate to contact me. We will support you or your agent at all times throughout the visa process.
What are the rules and regulations of a Bucksmore Centre? Are they very strict?
We have a set of rules behaviour which apply in all our Bucksmore centres and during trips and activities. These will be sent to students with their pre-course information and are summarized below:
I want to contact my child at the centre. How do I contact them? Show
Before your child arrives at the centre you will be give an information pack which gives you the contact details of the centre, emergency phone numbers and information about the best time to contact your child while they are at the centre.Our staff will help your child contact you when they have arrived. All Bucksmore centres have e mail access.
My child will be traveling as an unaccompanied minor on the airline. How is he/she met at the airport by a member of Bucksmore staff?
We will inform the airline about which member of Bucksmore staff will collect your child. The airline will then hand over your child to that member of Bucksmore staff when they have show identification.We have 30 years experience of collected unaccompanied minors from airports. During that time our staff have worked with most of the airlines of the world.
My child has specific dietary requirements. Is it possible for the centres to accommodate different diets? Show
All Bucksmore Centres can cater for different dietary requirements provided we are told in advance at the time of booking.
Is my English good enough to follow the Bucksmore Young Leaders Course? Show
To follow the Bucksmore Young Leaders Course at Clare College, Cambridge University, you need to be Intermediate level and above. If you are not sure if your level is good enough, we can send you a quick test to see if your English is the correct level or alternatively we can speak to you on the phone and give you an aural/ oral assessment.For students not yet at the level for a Young Leaders course, we recommend the Bucksmore summer course at St Hilda’s College, Oxford University.
