On the Advanced University Preparation (AUP) programme, students will get to experience life as a university student in Oxford throughout their stay. We will use multiple locations each week to host teaching, lectures, masterclasses and debate clubs. Tutorials
The core element of the course will be the daily tutorials with an expert subject tutor. There are a range of subjects to choose from including finance, mathematics, medicine and law to name a few. Each class will have an average class size of 8 meaning that students experience the small tutorial style of a university degree. The core teaching will take place at Oxford International College. OIC is one of the top-performing colleges in the UK. The Threeways teaching site, situated in the center of Oxford, provides state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories, along with common spaces and a canteen where students will eat all their meals.
Weekly Lectures
Each week, students will attend a guest lecture by a renowned scholar who will share their expertise and insight into an interesting research topic. The lectures are hosted in various University of Oxford locations.
St Anne’s College, University of Oxford (2) is located close to the University Parks, St Anne’s College is one of the largest Oxford colleges and boasts a long history advocating for women’s education.
Another lecture will also be held in the world-renowned Bodleian Library, University of Oxford (3). It stands as one of Europe’s oldest libraries, with its origins stretching back to the university’s first library in 1320. Today, the Bodleian Library remains a cornerstone of academic research and learning, serving as a vital hub for scholars and students worldwide.
Bucksmore students will get to walk the same halls as top business and tech entrepreneurs during the weekly lecture series at Said Business School, University of Oxford (4). The school has a strong reputation for entrepreneurship and is consistently ranked as one of the world’s top business schools.
University Masterclasses
These sessions help to build essential skills for successful entrance to universities. Students will attend masterclasses focused on interview skills, the UCAS system, and personal statement writing to name a few. Masterclasses are held at the Wesley Memorial Hall (5). A vibrant methodist church in the centre of Oxford. It is a popular tourist spot for visitors wanting to take great photos of the gothic revival building.
Debate Society
Debate societies are an integral part of Oxbridge life. The debate sessions will give students the chance to explore and discuss a range of topics they are passionate about, outside of the subjects they are studying. Debates will take place at Said Business School (4) and Ashmolean Museum (6).
The Ashmolean Museum is the University of Oxford’s Museum of art and archaeology, founded in 1683. The Ashmolean today has the largest collection of Chinese greenware outside China and one of the finest collections of modern Chinese art in Europe. In addition to the debate society students on the Advanced University Preparation programme will get to fully explore the museum during one of the weekly excursions.
Formal Hall and Graduation Ceremony
At the end of the course, students will get the chance to experience a traditional formal dinner at University of Oxford. They will also receive their graduation certificates during the formal ceremony at two top Oxford locations. Pembroke College, University of Oxford (7) was founded in 1624 by King James I of England. Famous alumni include Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien, even writing the first two volumes during his time there. Each year the college hold an annual lecture on fantasy literature in his honour.
Hertford College, University of Oxford (8) is known for its iconic bridge, the Bridge of Sighs which distinctive design makes it an Oxford city landmark.
Accommodation
Students studying on the Advanced University Preparation programme will stay at Student Castle in the heart of Oxford. Student Castle is a premium accommodation venue boasting university-style apartments, including single en-suite bedrooms with ample storage and desk space. Other facilities include stylish common areas, games area, private study areas and a gym.
The Advanced University Preparation programme takes place for 2 weeks during July.
