As part of the Bucksmore Pre-University Programme, students not only live and study at Oxford University but also engage with experts through formal lectures in one of Oxford’s historic lecture theatres. These talks are designed to enrich the academic experience, expose students to real-world thought leaders, and offer an authentic insight into university-level learning.
Formal lectures are an essential part of undergraduate life at Oxford. They provide opportunities to explore complex ideas, develop academic curiosity, and participate in discussions that go beyond the classroom.

14 July – Kojo Botsio: Getting into Research
Kojo Botsio is an education consultant, researcher, and venture development professional with over a decade of experience guiding students into top global universities.
In his lecture, Getting into Research: Exploring Your Passions, Finding Answers, and Making an Impact in Society, Kojo encourages students to view research not just as an academic task but as a journey of discovery.
He outlines how to structure and conduct both desk and field research, and discusses how the outcomes of research can lead to blogs, publications, businesses, or even influence public policy.
Students leave with a clear understanding of how research can be a powerful tool to explore their interests and make meaningful contributions to society.
19 July – Justin Reay: The Curious Mind
Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and the Royal Historical Society, Justin Reay brings decades of experience in academia and business.
His lecture, The Curious Mind: Imagination, Creativity and Innovation in the Humanities and Sciences, explores how imagination fuels creativity across both art and science.
He challenges the modern educational divide between the sciences and the humanities, showing how these fields are interconnected by a shared human curiosity.
From ancient art to AI-generated works, Justin demonstrates that creativity is a vital part of all disciplines.

28 July – Emily Luo: Finding My Voice – From Oxford to Entrepreneurship
Oxford graduate and public speaking coach Emily Luo shares her personal journey in Finding My Voice: From Oxford to Entrepreneurship.
Growing up with a multicultural background in Denmark, Emily studied English Language and Literature at Oxford before moving into a career in sales.
Ultimately, she found her passion in public speaking and launched her own coaching business. This talk is a candid look at navigating cultural identity, changing careers, and building confidence through communication.
From TEDx talks to coaching sessions, Emily’s story encourages students to embrace risk, find their own voice, and create a career path that reflects their true passions.
2 August – Syed Jazib Ali: From Kashmir to the World – Storytelling for Justice and Change
Syed Jazib Ali is an award-winning media practitioner and impact producer known for amplifying marginalised voices and advocating for climate justice.
In his lecture, From Kashmir to the World: Storytelling for Justice and Change, Jazib takes students on a powerful journey from his early life in conflict-affected Kashmir to founding Mudland Studio in Amsterdam.
With a background in journalism and documentary practice from the University of Sussex, he shares how lived experience can drive impactful storytelling. From UN forums to international film festivals, Jazib’s work uses media to shift narratives and drive change.
His talk offers students an eye-opening view into how stories can challenge the status quo and promote justice on a global scale.
