What a fantastic first week we’ve had at Bucksmore Summer School here at St Hilda’s College, Oxford!
The week kicked off on Tuesday with students arriving from all over the world. We got to know each other through some fun and energetic icebreaker games—lots of laughter and new friendships already forming!
Wednesday saw the beginning of lessons, with students diving into their academic programmes. In the afternoon, we explored Oxford on foot, discovering its beautiful architecture, famous colleges, and hidden gems.
Thursday was our big excursion to Cambridge! Despite the rainy weather, spirits stayed high as we went punting along the river—umbrellas and all! We followed this with a walking tour of the city and some free time for shopping. That evening, our “Protect the Egg” activity had everyone laughing and getting creative. Who knew you could get so competitive over an egg?
Friday was another full day of learning, followed by a sporty afternoon out on the fields. Students played everything from football to frisbee, enjoying the fresh air and friendly competition.
Saturday was packed with lessons again, but the evening brought out everyone’s silly side with a hilarious game of “Taskmaster.” From bizarre challenges to creative problem-solving, the energy was amazing, and it was definitely a highlight.
Sunday wrapped up our week with a full-day trip to London! We explored the British Museum, then headed over to Covent Garden to soak up the atmosphere, enjoy some street performances, and do a bit of shopping.
It’s been a brilliant start to the second session of the course —full of learning, laughter, and unforgettable memories. We can’t wait to see what next week brings.
