Applying to Bucksmore Summer School is an exciting opportunity for your child to join one of the UK’s most established academic summer programmes. Whether your child is hoping to strengthen their English skills, get real career insights into an industry they are passionate about, or explore a future university pathway, this guide walks you through every stage of the application process. This guide is clear, simple, and includes insider tips from our team.
Choosing the right summer programme can feel overwhelming, but with a clear plan, your child will be ready to enjoy a memorable and academically enriching summer.
Step 1: Explore Our Courses
Before you begin the application, take time to explore the courses available. Our Course Chooser is an incredibly useful tool for helping you browse our courses if you are not sure where to start.
Your child’s interests, age, and academic goals will determine the best programme.

Step 2: Check the Entry Requirements
When choosing a course, check the initial entry requirements, dates and location. Think about:
- Minimum age – our courses range from 11-17 year olds
- The campus atmosphere and facilities – we have dedicated venue and location pages on our website to help with exploring this:
- Whether the course dates fit your summer plans – our courses range from 1 to 5 weeks in duration, with fixed start dates across July and August

Step 3: Contact Our Team to Enquire
Our courses remain accessible to a wide range of learners, but ensuring your child meets the requirements early on will streamline the application. Each course has its own entry requirements, such as:
- English level – some courses have no minimum language levels, others require a minimum B1 Intermediate level. We accept official English language certificates (for instance, a Cambridge English Certificate) to evidence this, or we can provide our own language test to determine your child’s English language level. We check language levels to ensure students are able to make the most out of their time with Bucksmore Education. This should be received at least 1 month before the start of their course. The earlier we receive this, the better so we can advise if an alternative programme will be most suitable.
- Nationality Cap check – when you enquire about a course with us, our Admissions team will be able to check availability of courses depending on this. Our 20% nationality cap ensures our students have a truly international summer camp experience.

Step 4: Prepare the Necessary Documents for Application
To apply smoothly, we recommend gathering the required documents in advance. This not only speeds up the process but also ensures your child’s place is reserved as soon as possible.
To be able to complete our application form, you will typically need:
- A copy of your child’s passport
- Full parent/guardian contact details
- Emergency contact information
Insider Tip! Our team advises double-checking passport validity if your child will be travelling internationally so that their travel documents are in date.
Step 5: Complete the Online Application
Once you’ve gathered everything, you can begin the online application form. This form collects key details about your child, including personal information, course selection, dates, travel options, and medical notes.
To avoid delays:
- Double check you have provided accurate contact information (email, phone number etc)
- Review dates carefully
- Answer medical and dietary questions accurately

Step 6: Pay the Deposit
As part of the online application form, you’ll be invited to pay a £500 deposit to secure your child’s place. Spaces at Bucksmore fill quickly, so we recommend completing payment as soon as your application is completed.
Payment methods include:
- Bank transfer
- Flywire online payment portal – when completing the online application form, this is the payment option available. If you would prefer to pay by bank transfer, please submit the application and our Admissions Team will be in touch with bank transfer instructions.
Insider Tip! Upon receipt of the deposit payment, we can provide a visa letter of support if you need to make a visa application. We would recommend checking the UK government website for advice on visa and ETA applications.
Step 7: Receive Confirmation, pay the remaining balance and Pre-Arrival Information
Once the deposit is paid, your child’s place is officially confirmed. By the end of April, all outstanding payments should have been received, and a booking confirmation is issued to reflect this. We will require a completed medical form to ensure we are aware of any specific medical or dietary needs ahead of your arrival.
You’ll also receive a pre-arrival guide with details on:
- Airport transfers – Bucksmore offers a complimentary transfer service at major UK airports between certain hours. We require a completed transfer form at least 4 weeks before course start date to confirm your complimentary space. More information is available on our website.
- Packing lists
- Campus information
- Sample weekly menu

Step 8: Get Excited for the Summer!
The final step is making sure your child is ready for their summer school adventure. Use the pre-arrival information to help them feel confident and organised.
Our Team Recommends:
- Practising conversational English if needed
- Preparing suitable clothing for UK weather
- Ensuring devices, charging adapters and chargers are packed
- Discussing expectations and goals for the programme
- Checking all travel documents, flights and transfer information has been prepared
