A Balanced Approach to learning
As the final presentations wrap up and the last of the friendship bracelets are tied, it’s the perfect moment to look back on an incredible first week at OIC Brighton. For our children, the past seven days have been far more than just a summer course; they have been a whirlwind of academic growth, cultural exploration, and genuine connection.
The programme struck a fantastic balance between structured learning and the vibrant energy of student life. Mornings were dedicated to the “English & English Plus” academic core. It was heartening to hear about the progress made in their daily English sessions—the curriculum clearly prioritizes confidence and fluency. Watching them engage with dedicated “Plus Workshops” and project preparation sessions was particularly impressive. These weren’t just standard classroom hours; they were spaces for collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity, culminating in final project presentations that showcased just how much they’ve achieved in such a short time.
Beyond the Classroom: Excursion and Adventure
Of course, the magic of this programme truly extended beyond the classroom walls. The excursion schedule was nothing short of ambitious and brilliantly curated. From the charm of a Brighton walking tour that helped them settle into the city, to the thrill of high-energy trips like Thorpe Park and Chessington World of Adventures, every day offered a new pulse of excitement. One of the highlights was undoubtedly the excursion to London, which included a scenic Thames sightseeing boat tour and a deep dive into history at the Greenwich Maritime Museum. It’s one thing to learn about these places; it’s quite another to experience them firsthand with peers.
Building Community Through Activities
What we truly appreciated, however, was the thought put into the late afternoons and evenings. When they weren’t out exploring, the kids were immersed in a dynamic range of activities that fostered real community. Whether it was the competitive spirit of “Crazy Olympics,” the classic charm of a film night, or the creative downtime spent making friendship bracelets and playing board games, the programme ensured that every student felt included. The staff deserve a special mention here; their presence—from managing the “Welcome Games” to facilitating the sports sessions like football and benchball—created a supportive, engaging atmosphere that made the transition into the week seamless.
A Lasting Impression
It is rare to find a programme that treats the academic and the recreational with equal importance, but OIC Brighton managed it with ease. Our kids are heading home not only with improved language skills and a broader worldview but also with a camera roll full of memories and a new circle of international friends.
Thank you to the entire team for orchestrating such a comprehensive and enriching experience. It has been a pleasure to see the kids thrive, learn, and grow throughout the week. We’re already hearing stories that we know will be retold for years to come—and that, perhaps more than anything, is the true mark of a successful summer programme.
