From forming friendships and exploring cities, to practising their English and deepening their knowledge in the classroom, it’s safe to say that Bucksmore summer 2026 has officially begun!
Cultural Enrichment
As soon as our pupils arrived, they were eager to explore Oxford! Wednesday afternoon saw our first excursion – a walking tour around the historic city centre. Despite the heat, there was enthusiasm to see the sights, with many photos taken of the towering spires and intricate gothic architecture, alongside iconic buildings like the Bodleian Library, Radcliffe Camera and Christ Church college.
There are always opportunities to learn, bringing knowledge taught in the classroom outside in the form of subject-specific excursion days. Whilst the young computer scientists, engineers and philosophers visited exciting and interactive museums, the architect and business groups explored the bustling London city centre through the lens of their subject focus.
For many, Thorpe Park was arguably the highlight of the week! With over 25 rides and attractions, the theme park is perfect for any thrill seeker. Pupils were excited to go on as many rides as possible, racing to go on the fastest and highest!
Forming Friendships
Beyond lessons, evening activities encourage pupils to socialise with one another and make friends from all over the world, all whilst practising their English, of course! A variety of welcome games saw groups breaking the ice over battling to create the strongest structure using limited materials in the ‘protect the egg’ challenge. Pupils blew off steam during water games and sports, whilst clay craft and trash fashion unleashed their creativity. As Week 1 comes to an end, the common room at DVB has quickly become a favourite social space, replacing screens with Uno, jigsaws and Monopoly!
