Now in our second week, pupils are well accustomed to the daily routine at DVB. Friendships have been solidified, lessons are in full swing and the Oxford sun continues to shine!
Songs, Sports & Celebration
For one night only, Tuesday evening saw pupils become famous stars, taking to the stage to belt out the lyrics to their favourite songs in international karaoke. The crowd enjoyed music from all around the world, featuring a Ukrainian ballad, Brazilian, Turkish and Italian classics, and even a Lithuanian sports anthem!
Evenings were also spent racing against each other in a British-inspired sports day activity at the local park; doing origami and racking their brains in a Bucksmore version of the TV game show ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’. The week couldn’t be complete without watching the World Cup Final and celebrating the past fortnight of achievements at graduation!
Exploring Oxford, London, and Beyond
On Wednesday afternoon, young minds lit up at the Pitt Rivers and National Rivers Museum, exploring Oxford University’s vast array of fossils, cultural artefacts, and rocks and minerals. The archaeological and anthropological collections were fascinating, with over 500,000 unique objects for pupils to discover.
School books and stationery were replaced with hard hats and hi-viz jackets for our Architecture and Engineering students when they visited the Oxford Science park, observing active construction sights and learning about sustainable building practices. On the same day, Business & Marketing, Psychology and Computer Science & AI were invited to engaging workshops, museum tours and hands-on activities, bringing to life the past fortnight of classes.
For our final excursion, pupils boarded a river cruise from Westminster Pier, soaking up the sights of iconic London landmarks like the Big Ben, Tower Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral. Upon arrival in Greenwich, there was eagerness to explore the food market and Maritime Museum. The day finished on a high with ice creams and slushes at the vantage point by the famous Royal Observatory overlooking London city.
