Bucksmore London off to an academic start
The first week at Bucksmore has been a big one. With so many activities and excursions, and lessons of course, it’s hard to keep track of which day of the week it is!
On day one the students kicked off the morning with some placement tests, to ensure that they were in the appropriate group. Each class has fewer than 10 people allowing for several opportunities for focused work and individual attention from their teachers.
For the rest of the week classes have been challenging and a lot of fun, with allocated time for speaking, reading, listening and writing. Each lesson has a new topic of work to keep the students lively, interested and engaged. Of course this also ensures that there are topics of particular interest for everyone.
We also have a project class which is separate from regular morning lessons. There is a new project class each week, and project presentations each Saturday evening in the Bush Lecture Theatre. This week the project was to plan a presidential campaign, to make posters, presentations, music and write speeches and manifestos. The students got together in small groups and worked to produced this. On Saturday night, the campaigns were presented and the votes were cast.
President Alfredo of Mexico was elected by his peers and has been assisted by his VP, Manuela of Spain, over the course of the week to make important decisions like when the pizza party should be held and which students are deserving. Mr Alfredo has chosen to allow everyone to be involved in the party, even though it was his team that won the project challenge. What a wonderful President!
