Boarding School Experience

Preparation for life at a British boarding school

Activities and Excursions

The Boarding School Experience timetable is planned and organised by a dedicated Activity Manager, who is responsible for choosing and coordinating weekly activities and excursions. One of the key responsibilities of an Activity Manager is to respond to student requests and ensure that all students have a fantastic time during their stay.

Excursions

Each week, there are two full-day excursions and one half-day trip to a variety of destinations. Students are accompanied by staff on all excursions, and can be given free-time if appropriate. Popular visits include:

London
Excursions to London can take many forms, such as walking tours of famous locations such as central London (Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square and 10 Downing Street) and Greenwich (Royal Observatory, National Maritime Museum & the Cutty Sark). Numerous areas are also visited, such as museums, landmarks, attractions and shopping districts.

Oxford
Founded in the year 1542, Oxford’s historic rivalry with Cambridge dates back more than 800 years. On a tour of the city, students will see land-marks such as Carfax Tower, Bodleian Library, Christ Church Cathedral, and the ‘Bridge of Sighs’ and many Oxford University Colleges.

Brighton
This seaside town is based on the South coast of England. Known for its Brighton Pier, students get the opportunity to visit the Sea Life Centre or go on the Brighton Wheel where they have sky views of England’s coastline.
On-Site Activities

Students will also visit other top UK boarding schools to help then gain further familiarity with the boarding school setting.

Activities

The social programme is an important part of any summer school experience, and is great way for students to socialise and practice their English with each other. In addition to traditional activities such as sports tournaments, talent shows and discos, other examples of Bucksmore activities include:

You Bet!
A team game in which teams of students bet on a series of challenges performed by other students or staff. Teams receive points for the correctly chosen winner of each task, and the team with the most overall points wins a prize!

Beat The Clock
At various locations around the school are different challenges that students must complete as quickly as possible.

Quiz Night
Students are split into teams and are given a challenging and exhilarating quiz. The winners of the quiz are awarded with a fantastic prize organised by the Activity Manager.
