Academic Workshops
Young Leaders will have an opportunity to put their learning in context with weekly academic workshops held in iconic locations, such as:
• Royal Courts of Justice, central London
• Oxford Town Hall
• Cambridge Union, University of Cambridge
Interactive lectures
Modelled on university-style learning, interactive lectures provide content for discussion in groups as well as a constant interaction between the tutor and the audience. The interactive lectures are carefully constructed to benefit and correspond to the students’ project for the week.
Project Work
The opening of every week is done through a project introduction session where the project is announced and students are divided into groups. Initial roles are assigned in this session and a project manager is elected. Throughout the week, students work together to research their project before performing or presenting their projects in the final project session.
Case Studies
Case studies cover four hours of academic tuition every week. Initially, students are provided with input and material on a real-life case study such as ‘Coca Cola’s marketing failure’. After which, small groups are required to research and present findings on a similar real-life case. Through case study research and reporting, students are better able to work independently in groups and expand the skills and aptitudes needed to become successful young leaders.
Theory Lessons
Theory lessons are uniquely designed to complement the weekly project. Year on year the theory lessons are revised and newly created to represent current events centred around the theme of the week. For example, typical law week theory lessons cover topics such as the language of the courtroom, the UK judicial system and a focus on a leader from the world of law.
Welfare
Every Bucksmore location has a residential management team, and a minimum staff-student ratio of 1:7. There is always a trained first aider on-site, and students are supervised 24 hours a day.
Airport Transfers
Bucksmore offers a complimentary airport transfer service on transfer days for flights arriving/departing between 10:00 and 20:00. We can also provide an Unaccompanied Minor service for pick-up and drop-off. Students are looked after from when they land to when their flight departs.
Staff
Each location has a Centre Manager, Activity Manager and Director of Studies available for all students to approach with any problems. Bucksmore Counsellors are more than just teachers; they provide a high level of care and guidance for all students. All staff are background checked.
Pastoral Care
High staff to student ratios ensure all students are looked after. Bucksmore summer schools strive to create a warm and welcoming “family atmosphere” where all students and Counsellors know each other well.
