A large, peaceful College close to the city centre, Fitzwilliam was built in the grounds of The Grove, a Regency-era house where Charles Darwin’s wife lived for many years. Fitzwilliam College has modern classrooms and large social spaces, as well as a nearby sports field.

Fitzwilliam College is a 15-minute walk from Cambridge city centre. As well as Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge is home 31 other Colleges which comprise the prestigious University of Cambridge founded in 1209. Cambridge is a historic city on the River Cam in eastern England, just 50 miles outside of London.

Accommodation

Fitzwilliam College boasts some of the best accommodation at the University of Cambridge. The accommodation consists of single bedrooms in separate male and female accommodation blocks, and bathrooms are shared between 4-6 students. Laundry is available onsite and free of charge.

History

Fitzwilliam College was founded in 1869 specifically to broaden access to the University of Cambridge. Originally based at Fitzwilliam Hall (later renamed Fitzwilliam House) in central Cambridge, it moved to its present site in the north of the city in 1966. Notable alumni of Fitzwilliam College include six Nobel Laureates, three heads of state or government, one current UK Supreme Court Justice, and a significant number of political figures.
