King’s College is a world-famous prestigious university in the heart of London. It is consistently ranked among the top Universities in both the UK and the world. Classrooms take place in the Virginia Woolf building, whilst meals and activities take place in the main building on the Strand, next to Somerset House.
Location
Positioned right in the city centre in state-of-the-art premises of the Strand Campus, is less than a mile from famous landmarks such as Trafalgar Square, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.
Accommodation
Accommodation is based in a private residence close to King’s College. All students are given a free travel-card for each week of their stay, and students will never travel between the accommodation and campus without supervision from a Bucksmore member of staff.
History
Founded in 1829 by King George IV and the Duke of Wellington, King’s College London is one of the most famous universities in the world. The university has grown through merging with other institutions including Chelsea College, Institute of Psychiatry and Queen Elizabeth College. The University of London was established in 1836 with King’s and UCL as its two founding colleges making it the fourth oldest university in England.
In 2004, the university had various celebrations to commemorate its 175th anniversary. Research-led and based in the heart of London, today King’s is one of the world’s leading Universities for education and research. The university has also helped many world-changing advances such as the discovery of the structure of DNA, research development of radio, television and mobile phones along with also being the largest centre for the education of healthcare professionals in Europe.
