Founded in 1740, the University of Pennsylvania, or UPenn as it is often shortened to, is a research-focused Ivy League university. Its leafy campus is located just over a mile from the centre of Philadelphia, allowing for regular visits to attractions as part of the course’s social programme. Philadelphia, home to monuments such as the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, has a rich history and is conveniently located close to other major US cities including New York and Washington.
The University of Pennsylvania was founded in 1740 by Benjamin Franklin. It is a university of firsts, hosting USA’s first medical school, the first ever collegiate business school (Wharton School) and the world’s first digital computer. It is also home to numerous distinguished alumni including 14 heads of state, 3 United States Supreme Court justices, 8 signers of the United States Declaration of Independence, 12 signers of the United States Constitution and 35 Nobel laureates have been affiliated with the university.
The University of Pennsylvania is located in West Philadelphia’s University City section, just a mile from the city centre and its major attractions. Philadelphia hosts many of America’s iconic historical monuments including Liberty Bell and Independence Hall (where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were signed) . It is also home to the iconic the steps from Sylvester Stallone’s triumphant run in the film “Rocky” which are located at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Philadelphia is a short distance from Washington D.C. and New York.
Students are housed in single or twin bedrooms with shared bathrooms on the University of Pennsylvania Campus. They will enjoy private lounges and access to campus-wide facilities.
The university is located just 15 minutes away from Philadelphia International Airport and Newark Liberty International can be reached in an hour and a half.
Room access is only available with specially assigned electronic keys. In addition to Bucksmore’s residential centre management team and counsellors that provide pastoral care and support to students, the university also has campus security available 24 hours.
