On Friday 13th, 71 students celebrated graduation at the end of their two-week course.
Dressed up in their finery, the students headed over to Brasenose college where the evening started with a formal three-course dinner in hall. After enjoying the Mediterranean salad, roast chicken, and chocolate torte, the students received their graduation packs. These included a course certificate, reports from their tutors, and a copy of the Bucksmore Journal produced in the journalism workshop, as well a photo of them in an Oxford academic gown. To enthusiastic rounds of applause, the students came up in groups to shake the hand of the course director and officially ‘graduate’.
Afterwards, we all went back to the course campus to round off the evening with a disco. The Undercroft, decked out in fairy lights and balloons, looked wonderful. The ‘bar’ offered a variety of drinks and the photobooth with rainbow wigs, hats and oversized sunglasses proved popular, Waving neon glow sticks, the students had a lot of fun dancing to the music played by our counsellor DJs – almost as much fun as the counsellors themselves.
At the end of the evening, students gathered on the lawn to say their farewells. For most, the Bucksmore course had come to an end, after two weeks of lessons, projects and activities. The evening’s celebration was enjoyed by all and a fitting end to 14 action-packed days of fun, learning and new friends.
