Bucksmore celebrates its 40th Birthday

This year Bucksmore Education turned forty years old. To celebrate forty years of summer schools we decided to throw a massive summer party for our students and partners.

Over 500 students from seven of our centres descended on Plumpton for an afternoon filled with fun activities. We were also delighted to be joined by many of our partners from a variety of countries, with some coming from as far away as Turkey, Brazil and China.

After a rainy start to the day, the sun came out just in time as students arrived from King Edward’s School, St Hilda’s College, King’s College London, Tonbridge School, d’Overbroeck’s and Pembroke College, to join our students at Plumpton College.

To kick off the day, Mr Tom, Plumpton’s Centre Manager and the day’s MC, gathered all students together and welcomed the students to rapturous applause.

Once the activities began, it was intense competition in the Intramural Sports Tournament, with some fantastic athletic displays. Students chose their sport from Volleyball, Dodgeball and Benchball with Junior and Senior teams competing in different leagues. Cheering on their teams, Plumpton’s celebrations were definitely the loudest centre on the day!

When they weren’t competing, students had a go on the giant inflatables on offer. They jumped high and crouched low in Wipe Out, they tried to keep balance on a moving surfboard and rodeo bull, battled against each other in sumo suits and completed an obstacle course. The activity leaders did a wonderful job with inventive summer fete games (unsurprisingly, the sweet stall was a student favourite).

The wonderful catering team at Plumpton kept everyone fed with a lovely BBQ, perfect for a summer’s evening. Did you know at Plumpton College they cater using produce from their own estate? It was delicious.

After everyone was fed and all the games had been played, it was time for the awards. Matt Tighe, Bucksmore’s Managing Director, handed out the trophies with winners from Pembroke, d’Overbroeck’s, London, Tonbridge and Plumpton.

Students returned home to their centres with new friends not just across the 75+ nationalities there on the day but also between different centres.

Thanks to everyone who made it such a special day. Here’s to the next forty years!
