Talented Teens and Trying New Things: That’s What Makes a Summer School

In the last few days of the OASP programme, students made the most of Oxford, despite the rain!

We kicked off the week with a trip to the stunning Blenheim Palace where the weather held off long enough for the students to explore the extensive, breath-taking grounds.

The wanderers were welcomed back to camp with a British extravaganza! The college was transformed into two typical British locations; a tearoom and a pub (only soft drinks served of course!). The students were able to try classic British foods like scones, cheddar cheese, scotch eggs and, of course, marmite! They played games such as darts and dominos whilst we tested their knowledge of British geography and slang with a variety of quizzes.

On Monday the students were able to try their hand at punting, some were more successful than others, but everyone came back smiling and with a new appreciation for punting chauffeurs! (Punting isn’t as easy as it looks!)

Last night the counsellors were blown away by the students’ varied hidden talents which they showed off at the talent show. The night started with the counsellors performing a Bucksmore version of One Direction’s What Makes you Beautiful (What Makes a Summer School!) and things just got better and better. We were wowed by piano pieces, slam poetry, movies and singing. Performers and supporters alike had a fantastic night that put Britain’s Got Talent to Shame!

The next few days will brought an educational trip to some of London’s finest museums, a visit to the ice skating disco and the cinema, an elegant dinner at the formal hall graduation and an end of course party. We had lots more fun before the tearful farewells!
