Pembroke Students Take Risks in Lessons

Hello, my name is Tahirah Suter and I am a Bucksmore Young Leaders student. This has been my first week at the lovely campus of Sir Geoffrey Arthur, at Pembroke College. The first week has been full of laughter and smiles. Many of us when asked to start summer school classes imagine a setting where there is one teacher, and all the students have one main role, which is to listen. Unlike the stereotypical summer schools, this week’s academic classes has been very interesting and special. One thing that has been very fascinating is the visit from guest speaker, Ms Kathie Knell. Her lesson was especially captivating, because not only did she explain to us the different types of leadership styles that are used within the military, as well as big companies, but she taught us how to form a self-campaign, which advertises ourselves and who we really are as leaders. Another reason why her lesson was extremely enjoyable was the activity we had at the end, where she briefly explained the instructions of the activity to us and then gave us 15 minutes in groups to create a result, a final product. The mission was to create a suitable egg protector, so when someone tried to throw it, it would not break.

That activity was very fun, because it taught us about taking risks and how sometimes taking new risks will get you further in life. Overall the academic part of the week has been full of excitement.
