Plumpton’s adventures on week 2!
We welcomed many new students at the start of week two, making connections and new friendships straight away with our fun welcome games and team races. There’s nothing like a healthy dose of competition and friendly rivalry to break down our inhibitions and get to know one another!
Later that week we boarded the coaches to London for an enlightening walk around the historic political and royal sights, making sure we got great photos of Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament, while discovering that Big Ben is the name of the bell inside the clock tower. It certainly was a busy day out and after a nap on the way home everyone felt refreshed for a fun evening of lip sync battling, which turned into a good old fashioned karaoke and disco.
When the weekend came we enjoyed a day of screams and thrills at Thorpe Park where the students proved to be much braver than most staff members by riding the more tumultuous rollercoasters. The sun shined down on us all, making the water rides the most appealing of all and of course the opportunity to buy snacks and visit the gift shops added an extra layer of excitement to the day. Back on campus students chilled out with a movie and ice cream party before expelling some energy the next day with a range of sports, choosing from volleyball, badminton, basketball, football and tennis.
The element of competition returned to camp later on Sunday with students gathering in teams for the Plumpton Arms pub quiz answering questions about British culture, sports, food, royalty and of course their Bucksmore counsellors.
An emotional farewell was had on Monday night as we said goodbye to our amazing week one students with a graduation party and disco.
