Important Things to Know

There is a lot to think about when attending a summer course with us, so we have highlighted some key things that students (and families) may like to know before arriving.

Supervision

Bucksmore staff are always present on-site at every venue in order to supervise and assist students. This applies for over-night as well. Our staff are residential living in the same accommodation blocks as students. If a student needs assistance at any time - day or night - they can contact a member of staff by visiting the Centre Manager’s office or calling the Centre Emergency Number.

Remote Supervision

On our programmes, students are given the opportunity to have limited and remotely supervised free time on excursions (this does not apply to students attending a 10-13 programme) when in risk assessed controlled environments and whilst on a self-contained campus. This opportunity is only given to students who have parental consent, and provided they are fully aware of meetings points and times, have an emergency contact number for their excursion/activity leader and relevant centre and ensuring they stay in at least groups of four, this opportunity can be withdrawn if not followed . Bucksmore staff will be supervising groups at a distance, and will also have the students’ mobile telephone numbers to contact, should they need.

Free time is only given to students provided Bucksmore Head Office has received consent from student parents/guardians on point of booking.

Registration

Upon arriving to you course, you must register with the Centre Manager. Your will need to bring the following information with you:

  • Date of birth
  • Home address
  • Home telephone number
  • Home address
  • Next of Kin (parent/guardian)
  • Next of Kin mobile number
  • Allergies
  • Medical information
  • Dietary requirements
  • Home address
  • Other special requirements

Although we do ask for this information before arriving, it is important to collect this a second time, in case anything has been missed or forgotten!

Throughout the course, frequent registrations will be taken to ensure all students are present.

Registration times are as follows:

  • Breakfast
  • At the start of each class
  • After lunch
  • After dinner
  • At bedtime
  • At all excursions and activities

Passports, Travel Documents & Money

On arrival students must hand in their passport and travel documents upon arrival for safekeeping. Students are also encouraged to hand in any excess cash they may have to the office safe. There are regular ‘banking hours’ where students can withdraw cash from the safe. Bucksmore cannot take responsibility for any money that was not kept in the office safe, that was subsequently lost, stolen or misplaced. We suggest students bring no more than £150 per week in spending money. The only things students will need to spend money on are souvenirs or snacks, everything else they may need is included in the course fee!

Parent/guardian visits

Whilst we keep our social media and blogs updated all through the summer to keep parents/guardians informed, we understand that sometimes they may just want to see the real-thing! If you wish to visit your child or take them off campus at any point during the course, you must contact and inform the Centre Manager via email at least 1 week beforehand. We ask that you do not visit, nor take your child off campus during any academic hours. The Centre Manager will be able to advise you the best time to visit.

Expulsion

Breaches of certain rules and regulations will lead to the expulsion of the student. These include, but are not exhaustive of, the following reasons:

  • The use or possession of alcohol
  • The use, possession or attempted purchase of illegal narcotics

All Bucksmore courses have a strict zero-tolerance policy on alcohol and drugs. Although some students may be aged 18 or over, the use or possession of alcohol is still prohibited.
