This week, as we said goodbye to familiar faces, we welcomed in a whole host of new ones. Once again, d’Overbroeck’s (DVB) is filled with enthusiasm to learn, explore and make friends from all around the world!
Oxford, London, and Beyond
On Wednesday afternoon, in true Oxford tradition, our pupils enjoyed a relaxing guided punting tour around the River Cherwell, passing by St Hilda’s College, Christ Church Meadows and Magdalen College Tower. Once back on land, we explored the historic city centre and many souvenir shops.
Friday saw our young professionals tackling subject-specific excursions in Canary Wharf, Bletchley Park and central London. The Architecture and Engineering pupils created towering skyscrapers, bridges and ferris wheels using dowel and elastic bands, whilst the young Computer Scientists tried codebreaking at the National Museum of Computing, and the Psychology group visited the Freud Museum, to learn more about grandfather of modern psychoanalysis.
After almost eight weeks’ of intense heat, we welcomed a much cooler temperature on Sunday during our excursion to Windsor Castle! The royal residence of King Charles III, it is said to be the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. During a walking tour around the city, pupils gushed over the many furry friends before wandering around the bunting-lined streets.
Time to Socialise
Everyone got stuck into this week’s activities, making new friends, and playing ping pong, board games and possibly the biggest game of Uno the DVB team has ever seen! Highlights include the Murder Mystery Night where pupils analysed evidence and traded conspiracy theories, trying to solve who committed the crime and Trash Art where recycled materials were turned into masterpieces worthy enough to be hung in London’s National Gallery.
