Christ Church College
We started the week with a trip to Christ Church College, one of the most well-known colleges in Oxford. Students spent the morning exploring the college grounds, walking through the cathedral, and visiting the famous dining hall, which was a highlight for plenty of people because of its connection to the Harry Potter films. The visit gave everyone a chance to see one of Oxford’s most historic colleges up close and spend a bit more time exploring the city itself. A lot of students also enjoyed wandering through the surrounding streets afterwards, stopping for photos and taking in the atmosphere of central Oxford.
Cambridge and Punting
One of the biggest trips of the week was our visit to Cambridge. After arriving, students had some free time to explore the city, visit the shops, grab lunch, and see some of the famous university buildings before we made our way down to the river for punting.
Punting turned out to be one of the most popular activities of the week. Cruising along the River Cam past the colleges, bridges, and riverside gardens gave everyone a completely different view of the city, and it was a nice change of pace after a morning of walking around. There was plenty of time afterwards for more shopping, food, and exploring before we headed back to campus in the evening.
Quiz Night and Don’t Break the Egg
Back on campus, things got competitive with our quiz night, where teams took on rounds covering films, music, sport, and general knowledge. There were a few very confident answers that turned out to be completely wrong, which made it even more entertaining, and the final scores were much closer than most teams expected.
Later in the week, we ran Don’t Break the Egg, and it was as chaotic as ever. Some groups came up with surprisingly clever designs, while others watched their egg disappear on impact almost immediately. The combination of planning, building, and last-minute adjustments meant that every team had a different strategy, and the reactions during the final egg drops were probably the loudest part of the evening.
British Museum and Oxford Street
We finished the week with a day in London, starting at the British Museum. Students had the chance to explore everything from ancient Egyptian artefacts and mummies to Greek sculptures and the Rosetta Stone, with different groups heading off to find the exhibits that interested them most.
After the museum, we made our way to Oxford Street for some shopping and free time. As expected, most people came back with bags full of clothes, trainers, snacks, or gifts to take home. It was a good way to end the week and gave everyone a chance to experience one of London’s busiest shopping areas before heading back to Oxford.
