What is the Home Tuition English for Family programme?

Welcome to our truly unique Home Tuition course in the UK and Ireland. On a home tuition course the student lives and learns at the home of their teacher.

The entire programme, from accommodation to lessons, takes place in the relaxed and immersive environment of the teacher’s home, with excursions to local places of interest.

Each student is carefully matched to their ideal teacher by our dedicated team. Courses are designed by our professional teachers to meet the academic needs of the student, enabling faster progress than in a traditional school environment.

Our Home Tuition experience

A family course is a wonderful opportunity for a
parent and child to share a cultural and learning
experience together.

We have two course types available for the family:

Family Visit
A great way for a family to experience life in the United Kingdom. During the morning the child studies and then in the a fternoon the family have free time to enjoy their holiday together. The parent does not have lessons but has accommodation and meals as well as joining in with the teacher-led visits. During independent time, the parent is responsible for the child.

Family Study
An English immersion course for a parent and child, who study separately but with the same teacher; one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Between 15 and 25 hours of tuition per week can be booked, which is split be tween the parent and child. Whilst the parent is having lessons, the child will complete project work or interact with other members of the household.

Bucksmore Home Tuition can also offer customised family course packages for families of all sizes.

Vivienne P

TEFL Q, CELTA

Vivienne has been teaching for over 20 years and holds both the TEFL Q and CELTA qualification. She has a huge amount of experience in teaching students from the age of 3-80 years old and has taught English in Russia, Italy, Singapore and Japan! She lives in Fleet with her husband and two children, the house is close to shops, cafes and parks and is only 40 minutes from London.

Andrew Lumley

TESOL, POCE, BA MODERN LANGUAGES

Andrew is a retired Language Teacher, who also worked in Finances for over twenty years, and he is comfortable teaching specialized Business English as well as General English. They are lucky enough to have a beautiful park behind our garden, where there are many activities that are open to all, including a running club, tennis, outdoor gym, cricket and boating.

Teresa Ewence

Teresa has been a teacher for 25 years and is a keen linguist - she also speaks Polish and German. She lives in Maidstone Kent with her husband. The local area has many shops, restaurants and caes, and can also offer visits to swimming pool, library, cinema, museums.

Maria Merrick

TESOL

Maria is loving the TESOL experience. As a child, her parents hosted overseas students and she is still in touch with many today. She lives with her family of four in a Sussex village close to Battle, an historic market town, and several miles away from Hastings, a popular seaside town. London is about 90 minutes away by train.

Excursions

Our Home Tuition courses include two half-day plus one full day excursion per week. They are fully bespoke and subject to your preference and the teacher's location. Here are some of the destinations you can choose from.

Oxford: Museum of Oxford

On this half-day excursion you will visit the only museum all about Oxford. The Museum tells the story of Oxford and its people through a range of social history objects and interactive displays.

London: Buckingham Palace & Politics Walking Tour

You will embark on a walking tour of key locations relating to London’s rich political and royal history.

You’ll also visit the historic vibrant market area of Covent Garden. Following lunch you will enjoy a tour of the magnificent State Rooms of Buckingham Palace.

Oxford: Christ Church College

On this half-day excursion you will visit Christ Church College, an Oxford college and a city Cathedral sharing a unique historic space.

You’ll discover that Christ Church is an academic institution and a place of great historical significance.

Cambridge

Visit Cambridge and experience its historic waterways via a punting trip on the River Cam.

You will also have time to explore one of the 31 Colleges that make up the University of Cambridge – King’s College – founded by King Henry VI in 1441.

Travel and transfers

From the moment you land in the UK, we want to ensure your experience is as smooth as possible. We are able to offer a transfer service to the destination of your teacher at an additional cost.

If you are using an unaccompanied minor service, you will be accompanied by airport staff to one of our trusted taxi drivers on arrival. Our trusted taxi drivers will do the same on departure.

Our homestay home tuition courses include: a personalised course, tuition, private bedroom, towels for use during the course, laundry once a week, all meals in the teacher’s house, 2 half-day trips or activities per week and one full-day weekend trip for courses of more than 2 weeks, study materials during the course, insurance, academic evaluations and reports, support from Bucksmore Home Tuition throughout the course.

Your teacher will prepare suitable study materials for use during your course. Because every student has their own individual learning needs, your teacher will use a variety of books and resources. There are many different books and resources for learning English and your teacher will use what they think is best for you. Our experience tells us that using a variety of resources is the best way for students to learn and gives you and your teacher most flexibility. Students doing a Cambridge, IELTS or TOEFL exam preparation course will receive an exam preparation book. Your teacher will often give you a variety of printed sheets during your course. If you require additional material for home work and self-study, please ask your teacher. Your teacher will usually have extra material that you can use for grammar practice outside lesson time. From the initial enquiry form, we will ask for information regarding your age and level. We will also take location requests, as well as noting any hobbies or interests that you have.

From this, our talented admissions staff will match you up to a few teachers who fulfil your needs. We then aim to give you a couple of profiles to chose from.

All our Home Tuition teachers are personally interviewed, and their home inspected by one of our members of staff. We ensure our tutors have a recognised teaching qualification such as a CELTA, to make sure we have the highest quality of staff. Teachers are also observed every year to continue quality control. Our Home Tuition teachers are empathetic and welcome students into their homes with open arms.

Our online application form takes around 5 minutes to complete. You will need to enter details about the student, including their passport number.

Once we’ve found a suitable teacher for your course, a £500 reservation fee is required to secure the place, payable by bank transfer or credit card. Upon completion of application we can provide pre-enrolment documents including a visa letter if required.
